It's day five of #SixDaysOfFeltScraps and time to talk about those tiny strips and offcuts of felt! Before you put them straight in the waste bin, why not give this quick and fun make a go?
Simple rolled up strips of felt make beautiful colour-popping flowers, perfect for adorning a box frame or even the front of a greetings card.
If you've been inspired by the projects so far and you don't already have plenty of scraps to use up, why not take a look at my felt scraps project boxes? They're on special offer for a limited time, so you can stock up on all you need to make these projects and many more.
Flower Box Frame
TOOLS AND MATERIALS:
- Strips of felt in various colours - aim for strips around 3-5mm wide and at least 5cm long
- Scissors
- Craft pliers (optional but these will help you to grip the strips as you roll them)
- Glue gun
- Box frame
- Piece of paper or card cut to the inside size of your frame
- Ruler
- Coloured pen
TO MAKE YOUR FLOWER BOX FRAME:
Take one of your strips of felt and begin rolling from one end (craft pliers can help you to grip the strip if you find it a bit fiddly). Continue until you have rolled the desired size for your flower inner; trim and then seal the end with glue.
Now you can add a second colour for the flower outer if you wish: dab a dot of glue on the end of the strip to attach it to the previous layer, then continue rolling to wrap it around the first layer a couple of times, then trim and seal with glue. I used a mix of one, two and three colour flower heads of different sizes for my frame. My finished flower heads varied from 1.5cm to 3cm in width.
Use a ruler and your coloured pen to draw vertical lines from the base of your piece of paper/card - vary the height of these and remember to leave enough space between each for the flower heads to sit. Add leaves, doodles and decorations to the flower stems - be as creative as you like!
Glue each of the flower heads to one of the stems on your picture.
Finish by placing your picture inside a frame to display your flowers.
And it's as simple as that! Proof that even the tiniest scraps of felt can make beautiful flowers too.
Tomorrow is the final day of #SixDaysOfFeltScraps - join me then for another dose of creative inspiration! And don't forget to share any of your own make from the series with #thehandmadefloristmakes.
