Add an extra special touch to your gifts with these rainbow gift tags, perfect for present giving at any time of year.
Felt Rainbow Gift Tags
Tip: these gift tags double as a sweet hanging decoration once removed from the gift!
TOOLS AND MATERIALS:
- Felt scraps in various colours
- Cardboard for the back of your tag (you'll write your gift message on this so make sure it is a colour that shows up when you write on it)
- Hole punch
- Glue gun or tacky glue (I prefer tacky glue for this one as it allows more time for positioning your felt pieces accurately)
TO MAKE YOUR GIFT TAGS:
Start by cutting out semi circles from your different felt colours - the easiest way to do this is to cut the smallest semi circle and then use this as a template to cut additional pieces of increasing size. It's up to you how many layers you make - I made some tags with four layers but also made a full rainbow in seven colours.
Tip: I cut plain semi circles for most of my tags, but used scalloped-edge fabric scissors for the tag in the middle of the picture above - I love how these bumpy-edged rainbows turned out!
Cut any additional shapes you would like to decorate your tags. I opted for hearts, stars and letters to go on the smallest rainbow layer.
Cut a piece of card just smaller than the largest layer in your rainbow (cutting it smaller will stop it showing at the edges of your tag). Punch a hole near the top of the card, in the centre.
Put the card to one side for now. Glue the felt pieces together, layer by layer, finishing with the smallest layer and any decorative shapes you've chosen to add.
Thread your string through the hole in your cardboard backing piece and tie in place.
Glue the card base to the back of your layered rainbow pieces. Allow to dry before writing your message and attaching to your gift.
